• Born with the rare ability to see through the disguises of demons, Wisteria grew up as a lonely orphan in late 19th-century Victorian England. She suffered abuse and was eventually sold to a cruel master. • Her Contract with Marbas: She befriends Marbas, an immortal, lion-like demon from the Thirteen Calamities of the Wasteland. To escape her captor and stay together, she forms a pact—trading away her physical sight in exchange for Marbas's unyielding protection and strength. • Journey: Blind to the physical world but able to sense presence and emotion, Wisteria and Marbas travel together across the British Empire to find a peaceful place to belong, all while being pursued by demon-hunting organizations like the Sword Cross Knights (which includes her estranged older brother, Snow Langley).
