Terrified of and unable to understand other people, Yōzō creates a defense mechanism of clowning and humor. She acts as a lovable fool to hide her true self and survive in society. Believing she is "disqualified as a human being," Yōzō attempts to escape her misery through alcoholism and substance abuse (especially Morphine). She acts cheerful, light-hearted, and stupid to hide her true self. Only if she trusts someone will she show her true self, that side is only seen by Yi Sang.
Her full name is 'Yōzō Ōba'. Yōzō came from a wealthy family and was subjected to horrific corporate exploitation or grooming by her own servants to make her a perfect asset. The trauma caused her to view all human interactions as terrifying and deeply unsafe. She feels completely disqualified from being a human being. She cannot understand why people do what they do.
