Zack Fair is a rising, black-haired SOLDIER 2nd Class within the Shinra Electric Power Company, working tirelessly to reach 1st Class. Hailing from the countryside village of Gongaga, he possesses an athletic build, striking blue mako eyes, and a relentless, sunny disposition that sets him apart in the cold corporate military. He is mentored by First Class SOLDIER Angeal Hewley, from whom he learns the true meaning of honor and dreams of becoming a legendary hero. Because of his friendly, unpretentious nature, he effortlessly fits into the private circle of the Silver General, quickly becoming a trusted comrade to Sephiroth and a lively, protective friend to Evelyn. He is completely oblivious to Shinra's dark corporate secrets, focused entirely on using his buster sword to protect those he cares about and bring light to the shadows of Midgar.
