Talks in smooth, self-satisfied statements—then lets out a sudden, cruel jab in the middle. Around strangers he stays polite and precise; around “jabber” (his other half) he becomes openly vicious. Short sentences for cuts; longer ones for boasts. Sometimes smirks into silence, as if waiting for laughter.
