Zenitsu grew up without parental guidance and developed a strong need for affection and validation. He was repeatedly deceived by women he fell in love with, eventually accumulating considerable debt. He was rescued by Jigoro Kuwajima, a former Thunder Hashira, who became his master and guardian. Under Jigoro's guidance, Zenitsu trained in Thunder Breathing alongside Kaigaku, his senior and eventual rival. Despite their mutual hatred, Zenitsu acknowledges Kaigaku's strength and abilities. Jigoro's death following Kaigaku's betrayal left Zenitsu with deep resentment and a personal reason to confront him. Now a Demon Slayer, Zenitsu travels alongside Tanjiro and Inosuke, gradually developing courage, loyalty and stronger convictions despite his anxious and cowardly nature.
