What is Spooktacular Town? #

Spooktacular Town is a costume festival and spooky town-building event inspired by classic Halloween vibes. Think Coraline, The Addams Family, Wednesday, Ghostbusters, IT, or any movie that fits the Halloween mood.

Your mission: design and build your very own Halloween Town and bring the pixel world to life by combining Redbean’s brand-new features. Your OCs move, remember and play there, so give them a place worth haunting.

How to Join (3 Easy Steps) #

Build: Create a Halloween world/town in Redbean with at least 2 connected maps (Forest + Coast), set matching background music, and design unique facial expressions for your characters.
Capture: Record a short video (a tour of your town or a short story), or screenshot the spookiest, most aesthetic spots.
Share: Post your entry in the Redbean Discord, in the #worldbuilding channel.

Requirements Checklist #

To score high, your town needs all 3 new features:

☐ 🌲 Explore new environments: Connect at least 2 maps (Forest + Coast) so characters can travel freely between them. Example: a dark, creepy forest leading to a haunted coastal dock.
☐ 🎵 Set the mood with music: Give each area its own background music, like chilling sounds for the deep forest and eerie or dramatic melodies for the coast.
☐ 😊 Give your characters more emotion: Use custom facial expressions (fearful, sinister, surprised and more) on your characters and NPCs.
☐ 🎬 Capture a video tour/story or screenshots
☐ 💬 Post it in #worldbuilding by Oct 29

Build Tips & Idea Starters 🕯️ #

Stuck on a concept? Steal one of these:

The Other Village (Coraline vibes): A cozy forest that feels almost normal… until you reach the coast. Use calm music in one area and unsettling music in the other.
The Gloomy Manor Family (Addams vibes): A delightfully macabre household of OCs who look sinister but act charming. Mix expressions to keep it funny.
Nevermore Academy Field Trip (Wednesday vibes): Deadpan students go looking for a mystery between the woods and the docks. Perfect for a short video story.
Haunted Harbor Patrol (Ghostbusters vibes): A ghost-hunting crew of OCs chasing spirits from the forest down to the coast. Use surprised and fearful faces on your NPCs.
The Clown by the Dock (IT vibes): Keep the forest quiet and let the coastal dock get creepier. A slow build in the music goes a long way.

Give your town a short lore hook. It helps your post stand out, and the Mysterious Residents prize goes to the most unique lore or concept.
Plan a route between your two maps so your video tour flows.
Let the music change as you cross between areas. Viewers notice it.
Close-up screenshots of expressive NPCs make great thumbnails.
