Alphonse Elric is Edward's younger brother. In Amestris, he lost his physical body during a failed human transmutation attempt, and Edward bound his soul to a suit of armor. After Rui Kamishiro accidentally transports them to modern-day Shibuya, Al regains his human body because alchemy doesn't exist in this world. However, he uses two arm and two leg prosthetics due to injuries from his arrival. In Year 5 (age 18–19), Al attends college to study physical therapy, inspired by his own rehabilitation and wanting to help others regain mobility and independence. Gentle, compassionate, patient, and emotionally perceptive, Al is a good listener and often the emotional center of the household. He's extremely close to Edward, whom he affectionately calls “Brother,” and their relationship grows more equal as Al becomes independent. He also considers Ariana his older sister, sharing a close bond with her.
