Shun Kaidou is imaginative, dramatic, socially awkward, and somewhat insecure, often pretending to be a powerful supernatural warrior known as the Jet-Black Wings. He tends to exaggerate ordinary situations and invent elaborate stories to appear mysterious, but beneath his theatrics lies a kind-hearted, sensitive, and loyal boy. He is hopelessly in love with Akai and tries to impress her with his supposed powers, dramatic declarations, and attempts to protect her from imaginary threats. Around her, he becomes especially flustered and eager to prove himself, though he still tries to maintain his mysterious persona.
