Red initially presents themself as a bold and brave captain, being proud of their title, confident in their abilities and authority above others, as well as appearing more composed, cheerful and friendly on the surface. However, as the series progresses, and with each crewmember dying after another, Red is an arrogant, and wildly incompetent captain, heavily relying on the MIRA handbook, as well as their status as captain. Red is also deeply insecure and fearful after discovering an Alien Impostor was on their ship killing off each crewmember. Throughout the series, Red prioritized their reputation and status as captain of the Skeld. This is shown when Red covers up White's death from the crew, claiming their cause of death to be a natural cause. Even after admitting to have no idea what to do as captain, they still maintained authority over others.
